The International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council (IMSLEC) is a private, non-profit, tax-exempt 501(C)(3) organization, incorporated in 1995, to accredit training programs for teachers and academic therapists in the field of dyslexia and related learning differences, and in this way, to provide quality assurance to families and individuals who need effective academic interventions.
Applicants are accredited through a peer review process involving a Self-Study, authenticated documentation, and on-site visitation by a team of qualified peers including specialists in the type of intervention used by the candidate organization. The standards which applicants must meet are set out in detail and include a common core curriculum, formal criteria for instruction of trainees, adequate resources, a stable financial base, and qualified professional staff. The applicant must subscribe to and comply with IMSLEC ideals, principles and standards as set forth in its Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws and the Code of Ethics.
